Scholarship

The McCandless Democratic Committee presented a $1,500.00 scholarship to Connor Michael Phillips at a special celebratory meeting, Tuesday June 4th, 2013 at the McCandless Town Hall.

The McCandless Democratic Scholarship Committee unanimously agreed Connor Michael Phillips should be the recipient of the 2013 scholarship. He had a perfect SAT score; his academic achievements are exceptional; his knowledge of politics and social issues are indicative of a very astute young scholar and his essay on environmentalism was stellar.

To quote Connor, “every person can make a difference,” and by acting upon his passion, our community is benefiting from his accomplishments.

All the above reasons, coupled with his poise and articulation in the interview and commitment to service, made him the perfect candidate for us.

This is the 8th annual McCandless Democratic Committee Scholarship. The committee awards a scholarship each year to a North Allegheny senior who exemplifies the values of hard work and civic duty. Applicants are judged on their grades and test scores, and an essay on one issue from the platform of the Democratic Party. The Committee emphasizes the students’ commitment to and participation in service and civic life
