Caroline Ross Milford is the recipient of the 2007 McCandless Democratic Committee's $500.00 scholarship which was presented at a special celebratory meeting, Tuesday June 5th, 2007 at the McCandless Town Hall. Miss Milford is a graduating senior at North Allegheny High School. She is the daughter of Cheryl Milford of Wexford. Besides being an outstanding student, Miss Milford participated in a wide variety of activities in her high school career, including Orchestra, Air Force Junior ROTC and Forensics. As a community volunteer, she participated in the March of Dimes Walk America and volunteered for Working Families Win, a nonpartisan advocacy group for middle class families.
At the meeting, Miss Milford also received a congratulatory letter from Congressman Jason Altmire and a special thank you for the time she volunteered during his campaign.
Miss Milford will be attending American University in Washington D. C. this fall taking part in the honors program. She will be majoring in Communications, Law Economics and Government.
The McCandless Democratic Committee awards a $500 scholarship each year to a North Allegheny senior who exemplifies the values of hard work and civic duty. Applicants are judged on their grades and test scores, and an essay on one issue from the platform of the Democratic Party. The Committee emphasizes the studentsí commitment to and participation in service and civic life.
